Stavanger is seen as an intimate and cosy city where most things are within easy reach. You will find a charming city center full of history, shopping and nightlife.

The cathedral, fish market, the narrow alleys, galleries, museums, cafes, and bars - one after the other, is some of what makes this city so unique.

Stavanger is surrounded by sea, islands, mountains, fjords and beaches. It is a short distance to unique nature experiences, making Stavanger an attractive destination.

Stavanger was the European Capital of Culture in 2008. Since then, the city has benefited from a rich cultural life full of annual events and festivals. Stavanger is especially known for arranging Norway’s largest food festival, Gladmat, NuArt Festival and the International Chamber of Music Festival.

The regions local tourism and event businesses maintain a high standard. Stavanger is an experienced host city and has for the past 30 years been the organiser of several major international conferences. Every other year, the energy capital Stavanger organise one of the world’s largest energy fairs, ONS, which attracts about 60 000 participants from Norway and the rest of the world.

Stavanger is one of Norway’s most gastronomic cities. Fresh and local produce inspires the two Michelin-starred restaurants RE-NAA and Sabi Omakase and many other restaurants throughout the region.

Nightlife

Stavanger has a varied and exciting nightlife. Lots of pubs, bars and restaurants are located close together around Vågen, creating a lively nightlife in the city on weekdays as well as weekends.
